Obstetric Services

Fees and Billing

An ‘Estimate of Fees’ for your antenatal care and delivery will be provided at your initial consultation.

This Practice charges above the Medicare Benefits Schedule for any “In Hospital Medical Services”, and any “Out of Hospital Medical Services” (described below).

You will be issued with an invoice at the end of each consultation and payment at that time is both expected and appreciated. You will need to pay the account in full and usually your rebate from Medicare can be automatically organised to appear in your bank account.

For obstetrics patients, note there will be a one off, larger “planning and management fee charged at 28 weeks gestation. Part of this will be refunded by Medicare. Please address any questions with regards to this to our reception staff. *Please note that most people will reach their Medicare safety net after the planning and management fee is paid. This will mean most of the antenatal visit charges will be paid back by Medicare after the 28 week mark.

Payment of any gaps for in-hospital gynaecology or fertility operative procedures is required prior to the procedure taking place.

We accept cash, all major credit cards, and EFTPOS for your convenience.

  • Paediatric Services.
  • Miscellaneous Hospital Fees.

We strongly advise that you budget for a ‘Complicated Delivery’.

In Hospital Medical Services

For obstetric patients, there will be no out of pocket fee for the delivery of your baby in hospital, this is billed directly to your health fund. If you are self-funding your baby’s delivery without a health fund, you will be sent an invoice for payment after you have been discharged from hospital. Prompt payment of this is appreciated.

Out of Hospital Medical Services

For medical services provided outside hospital (e.g. - visit in rooms) Medicare will cover a portion of the Practice fee and patients are responsible for the balance. Health funds are not permitted to provide any benefits for medical treatment provided outside of hospital for which a Medicare benefit is payable.

Informed Financial Consent

This practice is committed to providing patients with informed financial consent for any in-hospital surgery. However, this may not be possible in an emergency situation. In most cases it will be accurate, but it may vary if something different or extra needs to be done at the time of surgery. The anaesthetist can also give you an estimate if you contact them and give them the item number or procedure description.

If you have any questions in regarding the fees relating to your surgery, please contact the practice reception on 07 3353 7034.

Gynaecology Services

Fees and Billing

Dr Friebe charges above the Medicare Benefits Schedule for out-of-hospital and in-hospital services. However, we have attempted to minimise patient ‘out of pocket’ expenses. You will be issued with an invoice at the end of the consultation and payment at that time is both expected and appreciated. You will need to pay the account in full and then take the invoice and receipt to Medicare for a rebate.

We accept cash, all major credit cards, and EFTPOS for your convenience.

Dr Friebe participates in the “known gap scheme” for health funds. Medicare Safety Net

Patients are now protected against big, cumulative medical bills for Medicare services provided outside hospital, including specialist consultations. All families and couples need to register. Even if all your family members are listed on your Medicare card you still need to register for the safety net. Each family member needs to be identified so their medical costs can be counted toward your family’s safety net. Individuals are automatically registered – just keep your contact details up to date with Medicare. Registering is free.
